Very rare to find the original gift box with the set. The set is from the large estate of the founders of the Lazurus Dept Store, now known as Macy's. See my other listings for more wonderful items from this estate-and much more. No damage to the china.

The box has some handwriting in ink on the top, plus a dark mark above that. The box does smell musty. It has padding inside to protect the china. It has probably been closed for many years. Would make a great gift or addition to a collection.
